JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - South African stocks booked a new record close on Monday, edging higher as industrial conglomerate Bidvest and furniture retailer Steinhoff both advanced on better-than-expected earnings.
The benchmark Top-40 index rose 0.26 percent to 31,650.49, the highest close in its 17-year history.
The broader All-share index finished up 0.3 percent at 35,897.69, also a record close.
